AICHI(Apr.22, 2024)-Tajima Industries Ltd. announced the launch of its embroidery art brand “&T” and the start of sales of its first works, “Butterfly Camouflage” and “Circulation”.
&T, named after “Tajima’s Technology”, creates embroidery art with a unique approach that crosses world-renowned artists with Tajima’s technology. Beautiful colors and intricate features fascinate the viewer and create a new future for embroidery. In addition to selling these embroidery artworks, &T will also communicate the embroidery culture and thoughts behind the artworks through the official website.
For the first art works, &T partnered with the internationally renowned contemporary Nihonga artist, Hiroko Otake. Otake has a deep knowledge of classical Japanese art and techniques using iwa-enogu (mineral pigments) and haku(metal leaf), and has worked internationally in Tokyo, Paris, and New York. &T worked on embroidery art with Otake who depicts flowers and butterflies that are Japanese painting’s aesthetic sense with modern context and sensibility.

It has a camouflage pattern where parts of it can be seen as either background, flowers or butterflies depending on the perspectives. This work expresses the importance of taking a multifaceted view of things.

Graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts with a major in Japanese Painting (Japanese-style Painting/Nihonga) in 2006. D. degree in 2011.Received the Emerald Grant Award (Tokyo National University of the Arts) in 2014.
Highly regarded both within and outside Japan for her development of new ways of expression using traditional Japanese painting techniques incorporating mineral pigments and metal leaf.
